The Famous Strongholds - Nizwa, Bahla, Jabrin
A full day trip acquaints you with the history of Oman and its famous fortresses in Nizwa (the ancient capital of Oman), Bahla (a mystical village under UNESCO protection) and Jabrin (the country former educational centre).
In the morning depart for the Nizwa tour. On the way, enjoy a photo-opportunity at Fanja village, where old watchtowers have stood guard until the present day. Arrive at Nizwa and visit the fort, famous for its huge citadel, and popular local market. An auction of animals is held here every Friday and visitors can take advantage of hot, oriental bargains. Nizwa is the centre of the country silver work industry, the majority of products being made by local handicrafts men.
Next, proceed to Jabrin stopping en-route at Bahla village, the centre for pottery manufacturing and famous as the location of the greatest fortress in Oman. The ancient ruins of Bahla are included in the World Heritage List. Visit Jabrin fort - one of the most beautiful in the country. This has been likened to a reinforced palace, being one of the residences of the Imam Bilarab a member of the Al Yaruba dynasty, a famous patron of the arts and sciences. Finally, return to Muscat.
